The fall semester is quickly approaching, if it hasn't already started. College freshman are about to have their lives changed, but excitement is often overcome by dread and fear. If you're feeling overwhelmed about all the changes coming in your life, here are a few things you can do to manage these negative emotions.
Keep in Mind: No One Feels Ready for College
You're not the only person who feels like life is coming at you too quickly. The transition from high school to college is not an easy one to make, but it's not impossible. Everyone feels stressed about heading to college, especially if they're leaving home to live on their own. Don't feel like you're alone in this, because you're not!
Talk to Someone
If you're unsure about college being the right thing for you, the best thing to do is talk to someone. It can be easier to make big decisions about things once you've talked it through with somebody. It can be your parents, a teacher, or one of your friends! The important thing to know is that you do talk to someone. Bottling up your negative thoughts is only going to make things worse.
Don't Give Up!
If you're about to start classes and are suddenly overcome by nerves, don't worry. Everyone gets nervous on their first day. Whether you're just a little anxious or afraid that you just won't cut it in college, don't back out. Go to class. Get through your first day, then your first week. Once you adjust, all your fears will lessen, and you will adjust!
