"Design Doing": Students Lead NextGenVest LA Regional Summit

By The NextGenVest Team

Top students from within the Los Angeles area planned and attended the NextGenVest LA Summit at Ignited Spaces in Hollywood. Check out the top three highlights:

I. The NextGenVest Summit was 100% Student Planned

NextGenVest winter interns worked tirelessly to plan NextGenVest's first Regional Summit. These students developed the Summit theme and itinerary, managed speaker relationships, planned social media activities, and invited new members. When asked about the experience developing the NextGenVest Summit Series, Nathan Lee of Harvard-Westlake noted:

"Planning the NGV LA Summit was a powerful experience in the power of community. As a winter business intern, I worked with an amazing group of fellow students from around the world to plan the Summit. Getting to meet these exceptional students and work with them on something tangible was a priceless opportunity. The Summit itself, the culmination of our efforts, also brought together leaders to foster a sense of Los Angeles community and shared vision"

The entire NGV Winter Intern Team that worked on the NextGenVest Summit Series included:

As the student-planned model was so successful, NextGenVest is now receiving applications from students around the world who would like to host their own NextGenVest Summit. The first ever NextGenVest International Summit will take place this June in South Korea

II. Students pitched ideas for the NGV Product Development Challenge

NextGenVest Summits are known for "Product Development Sessions" where students practice the Lean Startup Methodology and conduct rapid prototyping on new ideas to improve the experience of NGV Clubs. Students pithced the following new products and features for NextGenVest:

  • Creating a NextGenVest product that allows students to get organized, get guidance, and easily access online courses about key money topics.
  • Developing a new social media stragegy surrounding SnapChat stories, Buzzfeed articles, and more.
  • Initiating new partnerships with top brands that NGV Club Members can get free perks from!

III. New NextGenVest Regional Directors were elected!

Allyn Belusko and Lauren Wheetman were leaders throughout the Summit. Allyn led a workshop on how to effectively launch and lead a NextGenVest Club so that new students would be able to learn quickly on how to be successful. Lauren was the photographer for the day, capturing high quality media of students and collaborations while playing an integral role in the NextGenVest Product Pitch session.

Max Cho, The Founding NextGenVest LA Regional Director, is excited for the growth of the Regional Chapter, noting:

"As I am in the position of handing down the role as LA Regional Director, it was inspiring to see that the future LA Chapter will be in the good hands of so many talented students coming from various backgrounds. The diversity is promising as it will benefit the NGV Community and the product itself greatly. I'm excited to see where the NGV LA Chapter I founded a year ago will go and what they will achieve."
