Empowering Women With Financial Knowledge
What are the primary activities you do at your school?
I am a NextGenVest Ambassador and helped to set up the NextGenVest Club at my school. I am also the President of Single Parent Family Outreach and the Founder of Girls of the World: A Feminist Issues Group. I am also a member of Model UN and Peer Support, the manager of the field hockey team, the captain of the tennis team, and my class representative for organizing Semi Formal and other social events.
What are you passionate about pursuing in the future?
My dream job would be to establish a company that works to improve women’s financial independence in developing countries. This job would combine two things I’m interested in- gender equality and productivity. If more women were financially independent, they would be less likely to have to stay in a domestic abuse situation, less likely to end up in human and sex trafficking, and overall have more respect in their communities.
I know that in order to be satisfied in the future, I have to wake up every day knowing that I’m helping someone. Even further, it’s important to have a job that allows me to provide for my future family. In order to get there, jobs that would interest me would be something with a corporate format with a socially progressive goal. These criteria could also be found in a company that provides an ethical shopping product, which I plan to work at over the summer.
What do you plan to study in college?
In college I plan on studying Gender Studies and Business.
Who is your business hero and why?
My business hero is Joanna Coles, editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine because she revolutionized a magazine that I hold near and dear to my heart to be more focused on policy matters that effect women and feminist issues. Ms Coles is not only inspiring because of her success, but because she uses her power to have influence for the greater good.
What is your favorite aspect of being a NextGenVest Ambassador?
My favorite aspect of being a NextGenVest Ambassador is knowing that I’m on the ground floor of something great. I love being apart of something new with a positive mission, especially because it is so interesting and educational to see NextGenVest grow, change, and develop. The best feeling is to know that my opinions are part of something that is at the first steps of becoming great.
